11 pm, the telephone rings
My mother answers it
and to my father she clings
Tears stream down
her angel face
she waves me from the telephone
and to my room I race
I sit there on my bed
Wondering what is going on
Until my mother walks into the room
and tells me that he's gone
I sit there in utter shock
Not knowing what to do
And as she quietly shuts the door
Sadness fills my room
I cannot fight the tears
And they begin to fall from my eyes
And coming from the room next door
I can hear my mother's cries
They were standing on the freeway shoulder
Trying to help a stranded driver
They didn't know their lives were about to end
in a traumatic event with only one survivor
The drowsy teen that hit them was a decent kid
On his way home from a church event
but two officers are dead because of him
and now he does repent
You cannot take back moments
In life that you regret
You cannot give back what you have taken
From the people you never met
Jason & Maria are gone now
and constantly we pray
For law enforcement officers everywhere
That they may be safe another day
Please know you're not forgotten
and we will hold your memory close
We honor you and cherish you
and the profession that you chose.
