TRIBUTE POETRY

MY DESTINY
By Bill Aylward

For that brief episode in time,
I was, alone, the thin blue line.
I stood where only I could stand,
I did what only I could do.

It was my time, my place, and duty called.
I did not want to die, there was so much to lose
But evil threatened all I swore to keep
There was no other path to choose.

Cry not my friend, the time for that is past
There’s been enough of tears and pain for me.
If I could live my life again you see
I could not, would not, change my role.

I served, and I am serving now ... It is my destiny.
