TRIBUTE POETRY

MY HONOR GUARD BROTHER
By Officer Samgrelletta Fairley

We come together as one unit
Which is a very unique bond
Our many honor guards are an elite group
Who go above and beyond

Even though we may not know our fallen officers
For whom we pay our respects to
We always show the utmost professionalism
Because one day respects may be payed to you

But what about our fallen honor guard members
Our family bond is like no other
What happens when we lose one of our own
One of our own honor guard brothers

It does not have to be in the line of duty
It may be while out with friends or family
We should not treat it any differently
Because that is what happened to me

His death did not happen in the line of duty
It happened while playing basketball one day
Friends say he just grabbed his chest and fell
But who knew the blue line was on its way

The news was devastating for me
My honor guard brother was no longer here
Now it was time to pay my respect to him
To someone who was very dear

He was the leader of our honor guard
A very good example to follow
I would have never thought he would go so soon
Never thought he would'nt see tomorrow

It was time to give him honor
It was time to do what we do best
Once an honor guard member, always an officer
It was time to lay my big brother to rest

My big brother may be gone now
And I'll miss our honor guard times
He left a great impression on many lives
But it was time for him to walk that blue line
