TRIBUTE POETRY

FARAWAY PLACE
By Pam Garner

Here I lie in my bed comfy and warm
Visions of that day all I can do is sit and cry
Why did so many daughters, sons, mothers and fathers have to die
That is why all I can do is cry

The men with their cause, I do not understand
They kill their neighbors in their own land
Visions of that day will not leave my head
The Twin Towers, The Pentagon, Flight United 93
When they all crashed so many were dead

They danced in the streets and cheered in that land
I guess that is common in a country I do not understand
I cannot see their face
The men that took our people to another place

We trained those men to fly planes
They took control of four they had to be insane
Did the flight instructor ever wonder why
Those men never were trained to land - they must have wanted to die

We now protect those people in that far away land
Again Lord I do not understand
Now again we lose daughters, sons, mothers and fathers
That get killed everyday
Not like that day on planes or buildings so far away

I sit in Southwest Florida and watch the sunrise and the sunset
I cry for all those people I never even met
For all they had been, all they could be
One day I could be somewhere and that could be me

I lie in my bed all comfy and warm
I thought I was safe and come to no harm
But the danger is real and we all are not safe
From all of those people in that faraway place
