It was early fall of '65 when Ted pinned on that badge. The City council had elected him to be the first town cop.
Everyone knew George Edward Seman but folks always called him Ted. When he was not dressed in blue he would lend you a hand doing anything; mechanic work, welding, carpentery, or even fix your TV.
The real truth was that he "would lend you one hand", because he only had one hand. He lost his left arm above the elbone in 1953.
Ted was shot and killed on July 13, 1966 while transporting a drunk deaf mute man involved in a family dispute. I don't think he was even able to put handcuffs on the man.
I was 3 months from being 7 years old.
I still don't think the state law should have let my dad be a police officer because of his lost arm.
He was so honest he even gave himself a traffic ticket when the meter ran out.
