BELOVED MILLCREEK POLICE K9 “MAX” PASSES AWAY
By Melanie Whaley

On Friday, June 5, 2009 at 4:25 AM, retired Millcreek Police German Shepherd K-9 “Max” passed away due to cancer with his handler Patrolman Shawn Wills at his side. He was 11. This longtime companion and dedicated K9 “Max” was the proud partner of Patrolman Shawn Wills of the Millcreek Police Department.

Patrolman Wills tells of the bond he shared with K9 Max, “I am honored to have been Max’s partner, best friend and lifelong companion. He possessed a loyalty unlike any other, pure heart and relentless courage and a playful personality and he will live in my heart forever.”

>From the very beginning in March of 2000 when Max and Patrolman Wills met it has been an unbreakable bond shared between these two to serve and protect their community and the lives of others.

The community K9 Max served is the community that donated the funds that brought him to the Millcreek Police department. K9 Max was the second K9 addition to the division at the Millcreek Police department.

Throughout K9 Max’s career with the Millcreek Police department he was used for crowd control, drug detection special investigations for Erie County and school searches.

A dog is a man’s best friend, they say, and Patrolman Shawn Wills will echo the statement, for he lost “one of the closest friends he ever had."
